Since I haven't checked my personal Twitter in a while, I completely missed that Rest of the World article. I really believe we will soon have a reckoning on the impact of online gambling in the Philippines. Right now it's still a honeymoon phase—I bet traditional media outfits are happy with the loads of ad money they provide—but sooner or later a story about gambling addiction will surface and... and maybe we will sweep it under the rug.

I guess we can't rely on PAGCOR to encourage us to gamble responsibly—the idea of a regulator and operator under one organization, once again—so... who will?

Also yes sign up for Stack Natin yessssss! Not-so-secretly I wanna use it to... agitate for enabling monetizaton for all Substack writers. Not that I intend to turn it on, to be honest, but I find it galling to see people describe Substack as "OnlyFans for ___" when the vast majority of writers are not allowed to earn anything from it. So, what, is this neocolonialism all over again?

As with many things in life, gambling sounds like a good idea. Until it's not, and you're broke as fuck 😞 Kaya stories like this one are a must. It's about ordinary people being hooked onto something that looks legal, with the agency that's supposed to be the watcdog doing anything but watch.

I signed up for Stack Natin na! Check your forms 😊

I'll turn the paid subscription feature on if/when made available for us. Wala nang hiya-hiya when it comes to money! Not sure lang what to paywall and if I'll be consistent with production. LOL, sabi ng ating economic "masters" eh hubaran lang daw ng thoughts and feelings dito for free 🤭

I saw it! Thinking of launching the directory in January.

Also... our proclivity for get-rich-quick schemes, ano? Gambling has a legality that saves it from that brand, but the emergence of online gambling is very much reminiscent of Axie Infinity. (I remember being pitched by the ex's brother to 'invest' in one of those things.)

Me, I'm honestly not sure what I was to put behind the paywall, haha!

Isa pa yan! Rest of World also did a feature on it (and it's what made me notice them in the first place): https://restofworld.org/2021/axie-infinity/ I wonder what happened to all the players and teams.

I keep thinking of trainers but that's Pokemon right? Hahaha

IMO people here keep gambling because of lack of education and opportunities. Tapos the measures meant to grow money - real estate, stocks, businesses - are only for those who already have a leg up in life. Talo kaagad eh

The best talaga yung album na Capacities. Isa sa mga albums na lahat ng kanta gustong gusto ko, bibihira lang ang mga ganun sa aking munting koleksyon.

Nung una akala ko a full album of ballads and downtempo songs won't work. Now I prefer this more than the first two albums. Tama ka, walang tapon 👍

Thank you KC for the book recommendation. I would read Lio Mangubat's book. Swerte ko meron sa Everand which I have an annual subscription. I assume that's legal. 😄

You're welcome! Alam ko available din siya dito in print; I just prefer Kindle for foreign presses due to lack of shelf space at home.

Looked at Everand. Mukhang legal, and the price isn't bad ha lalo na if you read a lot 👍 Thanks for the heads up!

Just finished Agatha All Along too! And I didn't know you can't scatter ashes, so weird. Although I do want to buried in one of those fancy Loop Living Cocoon mushroom coffins.

Yeah, apparently human ashes are classified as "industrial waste". 🙄

In hindsight, there are very few places here na scarcely populated and can accommodate scattering. That, and Pinoys will dispose of ashes anywhere and without permits. Sureball yan

Thank you for the mentioning my name. Media practitioners AR Sabangan, Bernard Testa, and the late Ric Puod — who are not on this platform — contributed the most. I provided morale and on occasion, jokes. Seriously.

That still counts! Different roles per "group project" 😉
