Aloha, and welcome to Very Online, issue #6!
I hope this issue - or, to be more accurate, this rather short update - finds you well. Given the Russian invasion of Ukraine (alongside ongoing wars/conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Myanmar, and many other places, including my own home country the Philippines) and compounded migrant crises plus the obvious preference for White migrants, the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the erosion of democracy and civil rights everywhere (not just in the U.S.A.!), and the still-raging COVID-19 pandemic and its related shortages for food/products/materials...
Seriously: how are you doing?
As for me... Honestly, I’m not OK. I haven’t been in a long while; but I think recent events have left me even more exhausted, physically and mentally, than I anticipated. And they’re happening all at once. The chaotic and divisive national elections (and all-too-possible encore of the decades-long deadly Marcos dictatorship); moving homes; trying to resume work after a two-year break; and dealing with long-term health and life issues all eat up precious time and energy. So much right now is uncertain and rushed, and tensions are quite high.
I mean…
So yeah. I just wanted to say I am still alive, still here, and doing what I can and need to do while taking my time on the things that can definitely wait. I'm hoping to sort it all out soon, and slow my pace down somewhat.
In the meantime, I hope you’re all taking care of yourselves too. Stay alive, stay afloat, and enjoy the freedoms and rights that you have right now and that your predecessors fought hard for. We never really know for how long we will have them.
